How I rate fries

The 5-C Fry Scale

Fries come in all shapes, sizes, and golden hues. This scale keeps every review on the same five categories, five points each, 25 in total. It is a way of celebrating texture, personality, and the secrets in every bite.

1

Crispiness

How crunchy is the fry? Is it barely crisp, or does it snap when you bite in? It scores higher if it stays crispy even after cooling.

2

Creaminess

Inside matters. A perfect fry has a tender, fluffy interior that contrasts with the exterior. Dry or dense interiors lose points here.

3

Cut

From shoestring to steak to crinkle-cut, the shape should enhance the eating experience. Does the cut match the style and purpose of the fry?

4

Coating & Color

Evenly golden? Beautifully browned? Fries should look as good as they taste. A crisp coating, natural or added, and an appealing color score high.

5

Character

Flavor and flair: seasonings, toppings, the oil, or a secret sauce. Does the fry have a story to tell?

Bonus tags

Extra-special fries sometimes pick up a badge: Spicy, Cheesy, Vegan, Frozen, or Dipper’s Delight for exceptional sauce compatibility.
